Safe discharge of electrostatic charges

During loading and unloading of tank trucks, silo trucks, railway wagons or tank containers with inflammable liquids or solids, an explosive gas and dust atmosphere may arise – a single spark can be sufficient to initiate an explosion. To prevent this, the occurring electrostatic charges must be discharged safely.

Functional Principle:

EKX-4 ensures static electricity is discharged to the ground via a grounding cable and continuously monitors the grounding quality. Only when the connected object is detected as being properly grounded, will the electronic control outputs switch and filling release will be signalled by green, widely visible LEDs. If there is an interruption of the grounding connection, this will be shown by red LEDs, the filling process will be interrupted immediately.

Application Areas:

EKX-4 is mounted stationary on system side of the filling gantry. It is used in gas and dust hazardous areas of zone 1 and 21, mainly in the petrochemical and chemical industry.

Other applications include the food and feed industry, when handling potentially explosive bulk materials, and also the aviation industry.

Specialised version for containers, IBCs, barrels and trays

The danger of electrostatic charges must always be monitored when loading, unloading or handling bulk solids or inflammable liquids in the petrochemical, chemical, gas, as well as in the food and feed industries.

Functional Principle:

EKX-4 (2-pole) ensures that static electricity is safely discharged to the ground. It continuously monitors the electrical resistance of the grounding connection including the connection points at the grounding clamp.

Only when the connected object is detected and properly grounded, will the filling release be signalled by green LEDs and the control outputs will switch. If there are any breaks in the grounding connection, the LEDs will change to red and the filling will be interrupted immediately.

Application Areas:

EKX-4 (2-pole) is mounted stationary, close to the loading/unloading gantry. It is used in gas and dust hazardous areas of zone 1 and 21 for objects to be grounded, that cannot be detected by the standard 1-pole Grounding Control Device EKX-4 (such as containers, IBCs or barrels).

Other applications are the grounding of materials handled with trays on conveyors in automated industrial processes.

To avoid dangerous sparks between a component and the tank during the loading operation, the tank must be earthed. The basic function of the DCMT-3 and DCMT-4 is to automatically earth the tank to the ground, preventing dangerous sparks between the rig and the tank and minimizing operator error.

Main applications of the DCMT-3 and DCMT-4 devices are:

  • Tank truck earthing
  • Barrel earthing
  • Wagon earthing

The devices are programmable and changes to the set up values for electrical recognition can be made. The value of resistance and capacitance limits are programmable.

The site specific electrical signatures are pre-set during the manufacture stage and if necessary these can be controlled externally.
